Church of San Salvador de Prexigueiró

Churches/Chapels

This small church has an openwork cross and inscription dating back to 1266.

The church sits in a sheltered corner on a steep slope. It exemplifies the unadorned style typical of Romanesque structures found in rural areas.

The church has a single nave with a rectangular apse. It has two very similar doorways, on the main façade and on the south wall, both with a single archivolt, a pair of supporting columns, plain capitals, and tympanum.

The main façade and the two side façades have five corbels adorned with simple geometric lines, although a human figure appears to be distinguishable in a very abstract form.

Crowning the presbytery wall is a beautiful and emblematic openwork cross. It also contains a chiselled inscription on a through stone (perpend) next to the noon entrance that dates the church to 1266.
