Church and cross of Vilar de Ordelles

Churches/Chapels

The church’s single nave is some 6 metres tall, and the presbytery is taller than the nave. It has a hipped roof with pinnacles on the corners and on top, while the nave has a ridged roof.

The door has a lintel with a rectangular window above it, facing the choir. The façade has lateral moulding and ends in pinnacles on the sides. Above the façade is a belfry in two sections, the first with a double arch, where the bells are and the second with one arch with side pinnacles. On top there are pinnacles on the sides and an iron cross in the centre.

The cross is raised on a two-step platform, on which the tripartite square base is located. The circular shaft has longitudinal grooves, while the classical Corinthian capital is decorated with plants and scrolls.

On the cross we find sculptures, on the back a Virgin and on the front a crucified Christ. It is the most elaborate cross in the municipality and also the most eroded. It stands at a crossroads beside the Virgin of the Rock.
