Church of Santa María de Ferreiros

Churches/Chapels

The church is located in the place of Mirallos, at the very Saint James´ Way.

It was a priory of the Encomienda (those who have control on the land) of Portomarin, and was also supplied as hospital to accommodate the pilgrims. The place is linked to the Knights of the order of Saint John. In the 18th century, the church becomes a parish after being moved stone by stone from the place of Eirexe.

From the primitive Romanesque work only the main door is kept. The rest of the church was modified. It has a single nave and straight apse. The door is made up of three semicircular archivolts whose trim is decorated with chess motifs. They rest on columns with capitals with vegetal decoration, human faces and fantasy animals. The tympanum with two lobes is similar to other churches nearby. It rests on two quoins with a lion head. A Baroque belfry crowns the facade.

From Paradela to Ferreiros is 6.5 km. We leave Paradela from the town hall located in the street Cabaleiros of Santiago towards Sarria. At the petrol station in Paradela take the LU-P4203 road. After 2.3 km, turn left at the crossroads. After 4 km turn left. It is signalled.

Don't miss!

Frente a la entrada existe una pila con diversos símbolos grabados.
