"Jewels of Ribeira Sacra II - Gold Nugget" Mural

Street Art

This mural is located along the Winter Route of the Way of St James, as it passes through Quiroga. This was the second mural created in Ribeira Sacra by the well-known artist Mon Devane.

Just as in the first mural in this series (Jewels of Ribeira Sacra I - Red Pearls), the artist is paying tribute to one the most important gastronomic products of this part of Ribeira Sacra, by presenting it in the form of a precious jewel. In Quiroga, his decision to focus on the olive was an obvious choice.

Many visitors may not realise that the cultivation of olives in Ribeira Sacra probably goes all the way back to the arrival of the Romans. However, for a variety of reasons, these plantations were disappearing throughout most of the territory, only remaining in some of the most eastern parts of Ribeira Sacra. However, this tradition of production is still demonstrated by the olive trees in Quiroga that are hundreds of years old, and by preservation of the two local varieties of olives recognised as unique to Galicia: Brava Gallega and Mansa Gallega.

This work was created by Mon Devane in August 2021, as part of the Ribeira Sacra Landscapes Agreement.

Don't miss!

La tercera obra de la serie "Joyas de la Ribeira Sacra" se ubica en el concello de Taboada, bajo el nombre de Joyas de la Ribeira Sacra III - El Roble Milenario.
