Winter Way: Quiroga-Monforte Stage
The fourth stage of the Winter Way spans from Quiroga to Monforte, crossing through A Pobra do Brollón. The trail is 33 kilometres long with a moderate to high difficulty, climbing from the banks of the Sil to Monforte.
This stage begins with a trail towards the basin of the Lor River, ascending 7 km to the municipality of A Pobra do Brollón, where the foundation of the Castro de San Lourenzo (San Lourenzo Hillfort) in Cereixa is a noteworthy sight.
Within a few kilometres you will get a glimpse of the town of Monforte de Lemos, and the San Vicente mountain crowned by the Torre da Homenagem (Tribute Tower), which keeps watch over the entire Lemos Valley. Visitors can visit the monument grouping of San Vicente del Pino, the school of Nosa Señora da Antiga with its art gallery featuring two paintings by El Greco, ‘The Apparition of the Virgin Mary to St Lawrence’ and ‘Saint Francis’, and five panels by Andrea del Sarto.
