Castles and Manor Houses (Pazos)
Numerous examples of homes used by members of the local nobility still exist in a good state of preservation in Ribeira Sacra. These are castles and manor houses (pazos) that represented the primary or secondary places of residence for the aristocratic families that governed these lands.
Some are now in ruins but can still be visited, such as the castles in Os Novais and A Peroxa, while others have become museums, such as the Manor House at Tor, the Castle’s Keep in Monforte de Lemos, and the Castle of Castro Caldelas. In addition to their own unique characteristics, all of these have centuries of history inside their walls.
