A Pausa Sgraffito (A Pena, Paradela)

Located on the ancient French route of the Way of Saint James (the renowned Camino de Santiago), this intervention entailed the creation of a mural dedicated to the Way of Saint James, combining numerous coating techniques that incorporated pigmented mortar as the working material.
The design was carried out by an internationally renowned sgraffito and mural artist.
The carvings on the window lintel, which were once painted with silver enamel, have been cleaned. The artist explains how the work shows two people and a stream of thoughts, meant to convey the following inspiration: ‘Your steps get lighter as you walk; along ways created by him or her, and the ones who, during their journey, have grown, overcome, cried and laughed... yet continued walking regardless. The way belongs to everyone who takes one step and then another, the ones who have walked it, and the ones who will walk it. With each step, your burden gets lighter and your head clearer, thoughts become sharper and more serene’, reflecting the spirit of the shelter where the art appears.
This intervention was part of the project known as the Pacto pola Paisaxe na Ribeira Sacra 2020-2022.
