Folión Tradicional do Entroido de Manzaneda (Manzaneda's Traditional Entroido Folklore Festival)

Festivals

The thunderous sound of the folión, with drums, cowbells and metal farm implements fills the town of Manzaneda during this peculiar carnival parade, which in this town is accompanied by its traditional character, the Mázcara.

The foliones of Manzaneda are spectacular for their rhythmic and uninterrupted beat and the elegance and colour of the mázcaras, with their characteristic hats strung with coloured ribbons and their archaic jumps and dances. The great folión takes place on Entroido Tuesday, which is a local holiday, when the foliones from all the parishes come together in the town to form an impressive roar. It always ends with a communal feast based on pork: chorizos, tail..., a traditional meal at this time of the year in Galicia.
