Old bridge of Vilariño Frío

It is one of the remains of the Roman road that linked Astorga with Braga. It was built over the river Mao in the 3rd century.
Caracalla’s Via Nova or New Road passed over the bridge, according to a milestone found nearby. The present-day rounded arch bridge dates from the 17th century and was built using large slabs of well crafted stone.
On the access road to the bridge there is a kind of open air interpretation centre for the New Road, with 12 interpretive panels, a reproduction of the road itself and another of the milestone.
