Art in the Air - The Quiroga Murals Route
Urban art has arrived in Quiroga to stay, and it has become part of the lives of the local residents. Not long after the Ribeira Sacra Tourism Consortium initiated its first project in the town, murals and other works of public art began to decorate the local streets. These works of art have now been put together along a tourism route, so that they can all be visited more easily.
The town of Quiroga has now become one of Ribeira Sacra’s most \picturesque" locations. During the last few years, after the Ribeira Sacra Tourism Consortium launched its "A Touch of Colour in Ribeira Sacra" project in 2015, various entities and associations began to support beautification of this town, by sponsoring the creation of numerous murals in a variety of strategic locations.
This 1.5 kilometre route, created by the Quiroga Municipal Council, now includes a total of 11 murals and other works of art, created by artists who are recognised at the national and international levels.
These works are focused on a variety of themes, but most of them reflect local traditions and customs, important people from the history of Quiroga, or products that are typical of the area. You will therefore find murals that are related to traditional myths and legends, the Way of St James, and wine or olive oil, among other subjects.
