Winter Way: A Rúa-Quiroga Stage

The third stage of the Winter Way spans from A Rúa to Quiroga. This is a low-difficulty stage that spans 28 kilometres.

The first few kilometres are tarmac roads, lacking the traffic but full of beautiful views of the Sil River.

This stage was a secondary Roman road, which departed from the Via Nova towards Montefurado. Constructed in the 2nd century, the Montefurado Tunnel stands as an impressive example of Roman engineering prowess that has left an indelible mark in this area of the Romans who exploited this river basin for gold using ruina montium mining methods.

This final stage ends in Quiroga, a municipality that is part of the UNESCO World Geopark Montañas do Courel. Quiroga visitors can discover the Ethnographic Museum or even stop by the Bendilló oil mill, as Quiroga stands out as one of the rare regions in Galicia that has preserved both olive cultivation and the age-old method of oil production.
