Cerveira Castle

Despite its name, it is not a castle, nor the ruins of a castle, but a walled fortification, possibly Roman.
It is located on an isolated peak in the middle of a high mountain range of the Massif Central, between the parishes of Requeixo (Chandrexa de Queixa) and Pradoalbar (Vilariño de Conso). Although the exact origins are not entirely known, it was most likely a Roman fortification, due to the shape of its construction and the length of the wall (250 m out of a total perimeter of 430 m).
The remains of the wall, built of slab rock, are well preserved in some sections, and inside the wall there are traces of the remains of huts and dwellings built with the same type of rock.
