Church of Santiago de Lousada
In 1333, Vasco Pérez de Temes gave orders in his will that his body was to be buried in that place, which was a monastery at the time. Today, only the church remains.
This Romanesque church was largely rebuilt in the 18th century, losing large parts of the nave, the vaulted ceiling, the apse and the entire façade. Vasco de Temes’ sarcophagus was also moved from the centre of the church to one side.
In the north wall the silhouette of a door with an arch and a semicircular tympanum still remains from the Roman era. In its rectangular apse, with its semicircular termination, there are three narrow windows, one of them hidden by the sacristy.
Don't miss!
We recommend a visit to Chantada, where you can visit its tourist office and discover many other places of interest in the surrounding area, as well as exploring its old town.
