Sgraffito in Seoane Vello (Montededamo)

Restored ornamental elements in the rectory of Seoane Vello, which lies at the roots of the name Ribeira Sacra.
The façade is partially clad with lime banding over bare perpyne masonry, with a design combining strips framing and structuring the elevation, a narrow squared strip on the upper level, a wide curved strip on the lower level and a border under the eaves.
The early stages of the intervention revealed extensive lichen biopatina covering the surface of the cladding and facing, together with numerous material faults, occasional slippage and significant surface erosion on the strips. The proposed objectives entailed cleaning biological colonisation, conserving and anchoring the existing remains, and material reintegration, ending with a selective recovery of the intensity of the whitewashing.
The material reintegration consisted of imitating the original technique, recovering the bands and strips by applying and trimming a layer of six-year-old lime mortar in aged paste and fine siliceous sand. The surface treatment was completed with several coats of lime paint in varying concentrations to create a contrast with the original.
This intervention was part of the project known as the Pacto pola Paisaxe na Ribeira Sacra 2020–2022
