Sgraffito ‘Hojas y Olas’ (Leaves and Waves) in Xunqueira de Espadanedo

Newly created sgraffito using a traditional technique, located on an abandoned farmhouse opposite the monastery of Santa María de Xunqueira de Espadanedo.
Following a weave pattern, the background of the cladding depicts the evolution of a geometric motif that becomes a familiar, albeit organic figure in the region's belts. The mural features elements of Niñodaguia pottery, together with the interpretation of indigenous plant species in a mass of colour that winds its way up to the top of the building.
The lime sgraffito technique uses both a sacrificial and non-sacrificial layers. Mortar application is artisanal, combining the use of hydraulic and grease mortars according to the technical needs of the execution.
This intervention was part of the project known as the Pacto pola Paisaxe na Ribeira Sacra 2020–2022
