Giant Oak Tree of O Mestre

This is one of the few surviving oak trees from days long ago, when trees like this were abundant throughout the area
This is an exceptional oak with a trunk that splits about 3 metres above the ground surface, forming two large boughs that have grown in opposite directions in search of sunlight. In turn, these create two well-formed canopies that are almost independent.
Data for the tree (2020):
- Height (m): 25.80
- Girth at breast height (m): 6.40
- Canopy diameter (m): 20.55
- Estimated age: 250-300 years
This tree is located along the N-540 highway, where it draws attention because of its size. It is located in the oak grove at O Barrio.
