Loio Chapel

The Santa María de Loio monastery (Cortes) was very important in the history of the Way of Saint James but today only the chapel, which has recently been restored, is left.
Inside, a statue of Saint James summarises what happened there: the founding of the Order of the Knights of Saint James to protect pilgrims and the apostle’s tomb during the 9th and 10th centuries.
From the lookout point there are amazing views over the capricious river Miño.
Don't miss!
Close to this chapel is the village of Portomarín, which we recommend visiting. Additionally, passing close by is the PR-G 14 Loio River Route, which will lead us through delightful spots, such as waterfalls and streams.
