Molinos de Antero Manor House
This unusual manor house with its Frenchified architecture and Italianate decoration contains works by the 19th century Monforte painter Manuel Perez de Castinande. It was built between the 18th and 19th centuries and was an important administrative centre for tax collection, notarial services and property management for the nobility. Because of this function, it has an interesting security system based on peep holes, many of them hidden from sight.
Its current owners have converted some of the rooms into apartments so it is possible to stay here and enjoy the impressive archives in their company. Included in the archives are documents of the Order of Malta on the Encomienda de Quiroga, a lineage to which the proprietors belong and about which much of the documentation was lost when Napoleon’s troops passed through theOs Novais Castle in Quiroga.
