Os Trollos Forest Classroom

The Os Trollos Forest Classroom is close to the village of Bóveda, in a natural forest setting. It measures 30 hectares, on which there are facilities for receiving visitors and for a variety of educational and outreach activities for the general public, and for younger people in particular.
The Forest Classroom has an exhibition devoted to explaining the life-cycle of trees in a simple and entertaining way, from planting to felling, and the different steps in processing wood.
The exhibition “Find out about forests" has the following thematic sections: Nurseries and seeds; Caring for the forest; Processing wood; Wood in industry; Supplementary forestry products; Customs and traditions; and The ownership of the forest.
Visits start with a presentation of the Forest Classroom and its setting, and continue with an explanation of the exhibition. After visiting the exhibition, visitors can take a tour (with or without a guide) of the classroom area, walking along a path by the river through the nursery of forest plants and the arboretum. The tour takes an estimated time of one hour.
There is also an open-air leisure area with stone tables and benches, where visitors can relax and eat.
For those who have more time, there are two hiking trails that start from Os Trollos; the 5 km Os Trollos route and the 18 km Serra das Penas route. Both trails go through a variety of types of ecosystem, with pine forests, oak groves and copses, where places with unique landscapes, forests and environmental value mingle.
