The Reforestando Sabugueiro, Hedra e Botón de Ouro Mural

The mural painting (Reforesting Elder, Ivy and Meadow Buttercups) symbolically represents the rebirth of nature in an abandoned space through a botanical composition comprising different elements of three wild plant species native throughout Ribeira Sacra.
Elderberry, Ivy and Buttercup are depicted in a harmonious composition of their characteristic elements: flower, leaf, fruit and seed, conveying a message of the need for environmental awareness and ecological stewardship.
The colours in the composition are intentionally muted to complement another work on the building (a sgraffito on the main façade), creating a chromatic cohesion between the two and also their surroundings and seeking to harmonise with the place without being invasive.
Artwork by Doa Oa in 2022, commissioned through the Pacto Pola Paisaxe na Ribeira Sacra.
Don't miss!
In the south wing of the monastery of Santa Maria nearby this mural, visitors can also see two other works: Cacharreira (The Potter Woman), a tribute to the women of Niñodaguia who carried the ceramic on their heads to the kilns to be fired, and Sábado Longo (Long Saturday), in honour of the traditional festivity celebrated in the village on the Saturday before Easter Sunday.
