PR-G 98 Sil Canyon – Santa Cristina Route
Along traditional pathways and dirt tracks, this circular route covering seventeen and a half kilometres explores the area surrounding Parada de Sil. We will also pass close by Santa Cristina monastery, visiting it if we wish, and can walk along one side of the Sil Canyon. This route offers beautiful views and allows us to visit very important heritage sites.
This route starts in Barquilleiro square, in the village of Parada de Sil. Along traditional pathways and dirt tracks, we begin to make our way down a deep valley, home to a great many age-old chestnut trees. We then follow the course of a small stream for just over a kilometre, before starting to climb up the valley again towards Fondo de Vila. From there, we reach the famous Balcones de Madrid viewpoint and continue walking along, taking in beautiful views of the Sil Canyon. Slightly further on, we approach Santa Cristina monastery, surrounded by age-old chestnut trees. From there, we continue to climb up until we return to Parada de Sil, where the route ends.
Don't miss!
We recommend checking the Santa Cristina monastery's opening times to ensure entry to the building.
We also suggest a visit to the Mao Canyon and a walk along the wooden gangways starting from the Fábrica de la Luz.
