MTB - Fábrica da Luz

MTB

This physically-challenging route starts at the Fábrica da Luz: a former hydroelectric plant which has been refurbished and transformed into an MTB centre and hostel. Along the twelve kilometres comprising the route, we will discover a number of villages and enjoy fantastic panoramic views over the Sil and Mao Canyons.

We begin with a climb of approximately three kilometres along a tarmac road up to San Lourenzo de Barxacova, where our first panoramic view over the Canyon awaits. Here, we can also take a detour to visit the mediaeval anthropomorphic tombs found in the surrounding area.  At San Lourenzo, we take a stretch of the Parada Circular MTB route until we reach Calvos. From there, we walk down to the banks of the River Sil along a fast track. We continue along the riverbank, protected by canopies, until we start to climb up again, this time towards Costrela and Casanova. After a short hundred-metre section, we should carry our bikes on our shoulders to navigate a narrow path through vineyards. To finish, we tackle pathways hanging over the canyon, halfway up the hillside, with views over the mouth of the river Mao. Finally, we climb up a dirt track to return to the Fábrica de la Luz.

Don't miss!

We recommend taking the section of PR-G 177 Mao Canyon hiking route which runs from the Fábrica da Luz to the mouth of the river. The magnificent wooden walkways hanging over the canyon's side make for a simple but spectacular pathway.
