This route starts in A Seara: a restored historical hamlet which preserves the essence of the remote villages in O Courel. We walk up the valley of the Forgas: a channelled stream which, behind us, converges with others to form the river Selmo. Moving higher and higher, we start to see the area surrounding us, passing under the peak of Formigueiros mountain, which at 1,641 metres, is the highest point the entire O Courel area. We then reach the summit of our route, from where we have breathtaking panoramic views of all the surrounding mountains. We start to descend shortly afterwards, along a pathway surrounded by native vegetation, towards A Lucenza lake, the origin of which is glacial; it was formed thousands of years ago, when Europe and the northern Iberian Peninsula were covered by ice. In the winter, when everything freezes over and the landscape is covered with snow, we can better imagine how things were originally. Lastly, we make our way down another deep valley until we reach the end of our route in A Seara.

This route runs through areas at an altitude of over one thousand metres and through mountainous terrain. For this reason, we will need to think ahead and take into account factors such as the weather conditions, which, at these heights, can make things very difficult for us.

Don't miss!

We recommend taking a stroll through the village of A Seara. Doing so will bring you a little closer to the essence of this mountainous region, mainly focused on the traditional gathering of chestnuts.
