This hiking route follows a dirt track along the river Quiroga, until we reach the village of Casa do Vello. From there, we take a pathway up towards San Xoán chapel, and then follow the valley of the river Pacios down to the village of As Barxas.

Leaving As Barxas behind, the route crosses an oak forest where we will come across two alvarizas: historical circular constructions for protecting beehives from bear attacks. Next, we make our way to where the river Pacios flows into the river Quiroga. We can easily reach the start of the route by taking the dirt track that we used initially.

Don't miss!

Close to this route is the town of Quiroga and a visit to its interesting museums is highly recommended. The Geological Museum - one of a kind in Galicia - offers interesting exhibitions on various topics, such as the last ice age and how it affected the area.
