The Hermit of San Mamede (Legend)

As the story goes, a hermit was building a hermitage high up in the San Mamede Mountains in Montederramo. He was doing this using the assistance of two deer, to help carry the stones for the building.
One day a wolf attacked one of the deer, so the hermit put the wolf to work instead, as a form of punishment. This imaginative tale from the local folklore explains how the hermitage at San Mamede was built: by a hermit, a deer, and a wolf.
This story of the hermit, deer, and wolf is now depicted in a mural located in the town of Montederramo, created as part of the project "A Touch of Colour in Ribeira Sacra".
