The Mother of the Devil (Legend)

There is a traditional local tale of how the devil was travelling from Monforte de Lemos to Fisterra, accompanied by his mother, flying on a broomstick...
The devil became tired of her constant scolding, and when they arrived in Fonte Arcada, he threw her down from the broomstick, shouting “You’ll stay fixed in place right there!”. This became the origin of the place name Chantada, because in the Galician language, to be firmly fixed in place is expressed by the word chantada.
There are various other tales about the place name Chantada, featuring other different characters and other details, but the message is always the same: "You’ll stay fixed in place right there!"
