MTB - Os Bosques e Viñas Circular

MTB

Before setting off, you’ll be glad to have taken some time to explore the charming town centre of Castro Caldelas, where the trail begins. The old town was declared a historic-artistic site in 1998. The cobbled streets follow the medieval route up to the Castle of the Counts of Lemos, lined with interesting stone houses, galleries and coats of arms.

ross the town centre towards the village of Barreal to enter the leafy forest of Souto de Poboeiros, home to several hundred-year-old chestnut trees, together with other tree species typical of the Galician highlands.

After leaving the forest, the cycling tour continues in the direction of Poboeiros with its grandiose rectory house, and then towards Boazo. The trail then leads back into the thick of the forest until a path with views over the valley of Abeleda and a breathtaking perspective of A Teixeira. This point of the trail has a signposted link of 2 kilometres to get to ‘La Fábrica da Luz’, in the municipality of Parada de Sil, with its famous footbridges over the Mao River and the beginning of a mountain bike path (A Fábrica da Luz MTB). Continuing along the original route will lead into the Mao River Canyon and the vineyards of Cristosende, ascending parallel to the canyon of the Sil River. The trail returns to the valley of Abeleda, crossed by passing the monastery of San Paio, which, despite its state of abandonment, forms an interesting ensemble.

The final stage of this trail ascends within the ancient vineyards of the Alais coast and then the Edo Valley, with views of the town of Castro Caldelas looming in the final kilometres.
