Triguás Viewpoint
The viewpoint is very close to the Triguás hermitage. From this viewpoint you can see a broad and delightful view of the river Sil snaking its way through the area.
The Triguás Hermitage is one of the best-known hermitages in a region where there are many examples of religious architecture. The depopulation of this district has meant that the pilgrimage of the Dulce Nombre de María, the Sweet Name of Mary, is no longer held on 12th September.
This was a popular pilgrimage because of the Virgin’s undertaking to cure toothache, the plentiful wine and the country food ending with a delicious dessert: wafers. The festival went on into the early hours of the morning for the young people who wanted to live it up.
The Triguás hermitage has an interesting legend: the story of the three saints. It is said that this hermitage was built to honour one saint, the Virgin of Triguás, who had two sisters who were also saintly, Alenza and Cadeiras. For this reason, when they died, two other hermitages were built from where they could see the Hermitage of the Virgin of Triguás. So, with Alenza in Castro Caldelas (Santa María dos Remedios) and Cadeiras en Sober (Nuestra Señora de Cadeiras), they form a triangle for all eternity. Therefore, the saying that "the three saints see each other” is true.
