Yew Tree at Cereixido

Natural areas

This magnificent yew tree has a trunk that is almost 8 metres in circumference at its base. Just above ground level it splits into two enormous boughs, each more than 3.5 metres in circumference.

Between the two boughs there is a large hollow space that provides a look inside the trunk. The canopy begins to form at the point where the tree’s first branches emerge, at about 1.5 metres above ground level. This canopy, adjacent to the church’s bell tower, is remarkable for its large size and attractive shape.

Data for the tree (2020):

  • Height (m): 13.80 m
  • Girth at breast height (m): 3.65/5.22
  • Canopy diameter (m): 14.05
  • Estimated age: 300-400 years
