Folión das Fachas de Vilelos 2018

A Castrexa tradition  (of Celtic origin) with a big cultural interest because it is one of the few places in Galicia where it is preserved, the folión "de eve" as such, to announce that the parochial parties will begin. A ritual of fire and music that will last well into the early hours.

The preparation begins in the summer months at the time of collecting the Agucios, some plants that are born in spring and are picked when they are well dried, back in August. After several days to the capture of these, begins the elaboration of the fachas (torches), those in charge of entertaining the party. They will be as big as possible, since they will decide when the party ends; While there is fire there will be a party (at least that's the way it was when there was no electric light).

The festival starts with the procession of the smaller "fachas", responsible for illuminating the road to the Castro da Besta, from which all nearby parishes are notified that the place will be celebrating. According to our ancients, the procession of the "fachas" was, at one time or another, an offering to the gods to thank them for good harvests.

PROGRAMMING 2018

The day will begin at 9:00 p.m. with a "pancetada" (cooked bacon) and continue with the procession of the "fachas" to the Castro da Besta around 00:00 hours.

Back to the starting point, the biggest "fachas" will be lit and they will burn while the concerts that liven up the event last.
