PR-G 4 San Pedro de Rocas Camino Real
Along traditional pathways, this circular route covering just over eight kilometres tours the area surrounding the San Pedro de Rocas monastery and the hill on which it stands.
This route begins in the village of Esgos, where a stony pathway leads us into an oak forest. We gradually start to climb up to reach the San Pedro de Rocas monastery: one of the Ribeira Sacra's treasures. The monastery has a small interpretation centre, and we can also make out several tombs carved into the ground in the shape of human forms. Continuing along, we will see the stunning rock formations that surround the monastery, as well as the numerous small peaks of the nearby mountains. Finally, we pass through the hamlet of Quinta do Monte, where we simply have to walk down a steep slope which takes us back to Esgos.
Don't miss!
We recommend stopping to visit the monastery, considered to be one of the oldest Christian monasteries on the Iberian Peninsula.
