Monte Faro Romería
![Festivals Festivals](/cgmlImg/5232-ajlhndw/typeIconCategory/fiesta_2.png)
A traditional religious-social gathering known as a Romería entailing a procession of the Virgin, whom the locals call A filla (Galician for ‘the daughter’), to the chapel of Monte Faro.
The celebration begins with a 4-km procession of A filla (the Virgin) from the church of Santiago de Requeixo to the chapel of Monte do Faro. When the Virgin reaches the summit, an open-air mass is held, which is usually attended by hundreds of people.
And like most traditional Galician Romerías, which bring communities, friends and families together, the festivities begin after mass. Families and friends usually meet for pot-luck get-togethers. The festivities continue until the early hours of the morning accompanied by different orchestras.
The celebration ends on 9 September, when A Filla is returned to the church of Santiago de Requeixo.
