Portomarin's Aguardiente Fest

Portomarín is famous for its Easter Sunday celebrations, the renowned Festa da Aguardente, with activities such as a community race and eel tasting.
Locals come together on this day to celebrate an age-old traditional distillation for their orujo, which is unique throughout Galicia, since they use a classic Alquitara still in Portomarín rather than the alembic method to make this spirit.
One of the main events of the celebration is the annual meeting of the General Chapter of the Serenissima Orden de la Alquitara, which traditionally appoints new knights and dames as ambassadors entrusted with defending and bringing Portomarín spirits and traditional production practices wherever they go.
The event calendar includes the community race and eel tasting.
